My cat is destroying a door
He throws himself against it,
scratches off paint
he blisters his canvas
like an abstract expressionist idiot
I don't care
I don't get mad
I throw myself against a door
every day too
i just consider it
his recreation
but possibly he feels
something different is on the other side
of the door
but when i open it
he usually walks out
for a few minutes
then turns around
and goes back in
So
because of my cat
because of that
i have mixed emotions
about the possibility of an Afterlife
The Mania Of The Moment

"...the dread of something after death,
ReplyDeleteThe undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?"
But I wonder--what does he think is on the other side of the door? Prey? Another cat? Or does he object to closed doors on principle?
Reminds me of the "attack sleeping hyooman's feet" game (I still habitually pull my feet back under the covers, forgetting that my tootsies are no longer at risk of being mauled if exposed) and the "paper bag game." Sam would be in the bag, tensed and still--I'd put a hand, or a finger, on the bag--and he'd strike! I used to shriek, he was so quick, but it was still great fun.
Great lines...yeah I'll try to keep bearing the fardels too...
ReplyDeleteThere IS another cat the other side of the door. Since I got Dru to stop obnoxiously lurking Malkin, the spraying has mercilessly stopped.
I used to let Malkin run more of the house but lately I'm finding that just increases the stress for both cats. Malkin feels safe in his large room and he comes over to where I'm writing in this room periodically...but he misbehaves terribly in here since it's new terrain to explore and he can't feel he's completely claimed it yet...like Columbus on some island he has to keep coming back to and replanting the flag lol...
Most cats do object to closed doors on principle it seems. Dru will lie happily abed with me for hours but the moment I close the door he has to leave.
I love cat games. The things you buy for toys are never as much fun to them as the stupid stuff all over our house.
