And I think "probably not."
And then I think, "No way. Who are you trying to kid with 'probably?'"
The ending of this made me think of the KKK, even though he's clearly talking about Scottish clansmen.
I think I'm comfortable not feeling this much passion or being this polarized about anything except, say, murder or haggis (I'm against both).
I wonder why as a band member of Iron Maiden he had the perception MTV discovered them in 2003.
I remember MTV playing them a lot in the 80s. More than I ever heard them on any radio.
And then MTV got big time into the English new waves and segregated them to their metal shows, where I'm presuming they still got a lot of play.
But I guess if you're trying to feel like a rebel forty years after the fact, this is what you say.
And if you want to pump a metal fan's nads up.
Then I guess he said the right things.
It did float down my Tumblr.
I always expected every Judas Priest video I ever saw to suddenly turn into a gay porno halfway through.
I wasn't surprised one bit when the singer finally outed himself a few decades or so later.
“Have you ever thought about how many types of heavy metal you can think of, but I can think of, oh, I don’t know: Death Metal, Goth Metal, Black Metal, Speed Metal, Thrash Metal, Nu Metal, Classic Metal, Tran Metal, I don’t know, Scrap Metal. I don’t know but there are millions of fucking different kinds of metal, of classification of heavy metal. So erm, Iron Maiden eh? What do you reckon? What kind of heavy metal is Iron Maiden? I tell you what, I tell you what we are, I tell you what type of music this is that we play, I tell you what BOX to put Iron Maiden in. Are we Nu? Are we Classic? Are we Tran? Are we Scrap? Are we Speed? I’ll tell you what we are, WE ARE IRON FUCKING MAIDEN AND THAT’S IT MOTHERFUCKERS! And the reason we are here, the reason that we are here on this stage tonight, and maybe in November when we come back to do some more gigs for ya, with the new album and all that shit. The reason that we are here is not because we’re fucking clever, the reason we are here is because YOU put us here on this fucking stage and without you, we’re nothing! So this is a song for everybody here tonight, for everybody that has the freedom to think for themselves, to ignore the … I was talking to MTV earlier today. MTV have discovered Iron Maiden! Oh thank god! Do we give a shit? [NO!] Right, for the independent of thought, to ignore pop music. To ignore fashion. To ignore bullshit. To ignore the press, to think for your selfs, to listen to the music in your hearts and your minds. This is a song about that kind of shit. This is a song about freedom. It takes place a long time ago, in Scotland. There were the bad guys, they were the English but hey shit, we can’t be perfect all the time y’know? A guy called William Wallace. Braveheart. The freedom to belong, the freedom, to be The Clansman!”
