Just Called My Congresspeeps to Vent About S.O.P.A. If You Want to Call Yours, Here are the Numbers...

The young women who answered the phones were in both instances total charmers.

I think I talked for greater than maybe seven minutes with the one working in Casey's office. She was very nice and she was putting spin out--assuring me this bill is not in its final form.

I did stress I don't care and I still won't vote for any candidate who supports it.

I've explained my reasoning elsewhere on this blog. I believe this is a technological problem that requires a technological (not a legislative) solution.

And I believe this is horrible for the country, both economically and in how it will impact our already stressed Department of Justice.

The only ones who will benefit will be lawyers and devious sites that want to take down internet giants to move into their niche.

This will encourage the worst types of legal sophistry imaginable.

If you feel the same way and want to let your Congress reps know how you feel, do please call them.

They must have a a lot of phone lines--perhaps they increased staff in anticipation of this or possibly they dsigned "spillover" party phone lines to control spin, do damage control?

Because I didn't get a busy signal (as I expected) with either one and the phone only rang like seven times at the first office--and like three times at the second office.

So....amazing!

And easy to do.

Don't let the lobbyists design our country and our culture.

We really would be losing a lot of freedom if this ever got through.

And it could move the country dangerously to the right in creating an internet police state.

This isn't a joke.

You think sites like the giants who are participating in the black-out today would shut down for any trivial reason?

They all know they're fighting for their lives.

And these are lives I want to be a part of my life. That's why I made those calls.

Obama he has announced he will veto S.O.P.A. Good man. And I don't see them getting the numbers to get around that.

But let's create enough noise to send a message to the lobbyists that we're no longer going to allow a few robber barons (see the list of whom you're "really stealing from") to explain theft to us.

I support intellectual property rights. And this needs to be address, agreed.

But this is the completely wrong way.

This is dropping a nuclear bomb to kill a fly.
