Ron Mueck: Boy

Why does this work remind me of Duchamp's last work seemingly inverted like a sock.

The notion of private desire coveted turned inside-out?

The funny cultural inversion of scale based on clueless youth.

I don't think that's wrong.

I'm not scoffing with age.

I think clueless youth is as good a thing to elevate or promote in a culture as anything else.

It's actually probably a great deal better to promote than most things cultures tend to fix and settle on.

Things which are usually much more insidious and less innocent and take a greater toll.

Than the beautiful cluelessness and infinite possibilities of youth.

Before they are rendered.

Maybe I'm giving this work a gay critical reading.

Most aging gay men tend to fetishize their own boyhood with time.

They fall in love with a projection.

I'm not saying pedophilia. Christ, not that.

I don't really think there even was a real boy on the beach with Aschenbach.

Probably it was just himself watching himself.
