a van in a cemetery down by the river

dead people don't think
in the first person posthumous
only living people do that

this is funny

i suppose more often
it's the fist person posthumous

people pound their forehead
like Chris Farley angry with himself

for being so stupid
with their lives ruined

which makes us laugh

people act like Chris Farley
a lot
when they think about their own deaths

or talk about them

they do the funny pants
that don't fit
hula hoop belt adjusting thing

he used to do
when he was Matt Foley

giving an idiotic inspirational speech
to troubled kids
played by various celebrities

before he fell through a coffee table

reminding us self-destruction
must be funny
in the monkey universe

and we are all there

that's how most people look
and how they sound

when they talk about
their own deaths

those little pep talks

they remind me of Chris Farley

  1. I hit myself in the forehead on my most recent visit to the doctor. I was having more than my usual trouble with word recall. Oh dear. Hope that didn't look too crazy.

Mom used to do the pep talk thing. She'd proclaim loudly that the only way she'd leave the house was "feet first"! Ended up dying in hospice, still making proclamations about what she had to do when she got home, though in her eyes we could see that she understood.
