Lestat watches Oprah talking about vampirism.
He makes a comment about Oprah's relationship to vampirism.
Louis knows Lestat is mistaken. Oprah is really talking about veganism, not vampirism.
Louis thinks Dumbass. He doesn't correct Lestat.
Lestat doesn't correct himself.
Both Lestat and Louis are secretly thinking about the weird nature of talk itself.
But they think about it in different ways.
Oprah is secretly thinking about vampirism, while talking about veganism with several guests on her show, or rather pretending to talk about veganism.
You can be pretending to talk about something if you are really thinking about something else.
Nobody is sure when this possibility first occurred in evolution, but it almost certainly predates the human animal.
The word really gets people killed.
Oprah is pretending to focus her eyes on her guests but you can tell her mind is a million miles away.
Off in some alternative Oprah universe.
Oprah wonders why the language says her guests.
Louis wonders if his life would become an epiphany if he met Oprah.
Lestat has met Oprah.
It's hard to live as long as Lestat has lived and not meet Oprah.
If you believe Michio Kaku, everyone has already met Oprah in one parallel universe or another.
Everyone has married her, screwed her, watched her solve the last mysteries of quantum mechanics, given birth to her, strangled her, fallen in love over a shared Slurpee with her, joked about Slurpee "blue tongue" with her and done every other thing that a human being could possibly do in the medium of time in relation to another human being.
Horrible wonderful unspeakable. All things.
But perhaps not in that order.
Probably in no order whatsoever.
Like life really. Is.
